Casper the Gypsy

Caspian Gull at Broom GPCaspian Gull at Broom GPCaspian Gull at Broom GP
I like a good Caspian Gull.  This was a nice surprise on Gypsy Lane East (Broom GP) this afternoon.  Although we usually have a good autumn gull roost, Caspo's are still pretty rare beasts.  It's only my second Caspian Gull in Beds this year, and the previous year was a blank!

  1. I didn't realise Caspians were so rare over the border, seems odd that there are so many found at Calvert in Bucks?

  2. They never used to be this scarce. It's only since the tips have closed that gull numbers in Beds have tumbled. At one time both the Broggy and Stewartby roosts had around 30,000 birds a night each. Now, the Broggy roost has gone, and Stewartby gets, at best, a couple of thousand. Watch 'em while you can!
